You Need Crowns If You…

Dental Bridges are a special type of restoration which we can do in as little as one visit! This means you have the choice of not enduring the longer process of getting an implant.

This is best for patients who don’t want an implant, have adjoining teeth which have cavities or had cavities and for patients who need fast results.

At The Oaks, cavities are treated within a day with non-harmful materials in accordance with our Natural Green Dentistry philosophy. With restorations and crowns that give you the most natural look, you will not have to worry about your appearance and could simply enjoy your newly treated, healthy teeth!

Types of Bridges

We offer the two most up-to-date techniques that also support our natural green philosophy.

Traditional Bridges

Traditional bridges are the most selected around the world. This treatment involves crowning the adjoining teeth next to the missing tooth slot and connecting them through a crown without an implant post.

Specifically, the enamel (surface of the tooth) of your adjacent teeth are removed and replaced with crowns. The pontic (artificial tooth) is then cemented onto the adjacent crowns. This procedure is for those who are missing one tooth, with natural teeth on both sides of the missing tooth.

*Once your natural teeth get crowns, you will need crowns permanently despite having healthy teeth because enamels do not grow back. However, do not worry; crowns are our specialty. For more information on crowns, click here.

Implant-supported Bridges

Implant-supported bridges work for those who have more than one missing tooth. Implants are first placed to replace the roots of your missing teeth. After the implants take root, they are finalized with crowns that create the most natural, healthy look for you.

When there are complications with getting implants for every missing tooth, you may receive a pontic between two implant-supported teeth (a similar concept to the traditional bridge). The pontic is attached to the adjacent implants.

The great advantage of this procedure is that your natural teeth are not affected; the implants will be supporting the bridge. However, the procedure will take longer than the traditional bridge procedure, and requires more extensive treatments. For more information on implants, click here.

Implants vs Implant-Supported Bridges

It is easy to be confused between the choice of implants and implant-supported bridges. Bridges are chosen when it is seen that too much pressure is being applied to a single implant.

The pressure may loosen the implant, which may reduce its success rate and lifespan. Bridges disperse the pressure applied to one tooth amongst the connected teeth, reducing such problems. The lifespan of bridges, however, are shorter than implants. Bridges tend to last from 5 to 15 years, while implants may last a lifetime (when taken well care of).

However, do not worry about not knowing which procedure to choose. After examination of your gum health, dental health, and overall oral state, the doctor will recommend the type of treatment best for you.

Treatment Time, Recovery Time & Precautions

Treatment Time : 1 Day

Recovery Time : At least 3 days (depending on treatment type)

Precautions : Soft-food diet until you adjust to eating with your new bridges

Traditional bridges may take as little as one day; for those who do not have much time, this can be done by the time you walk out of your first visit.

Implant-supported bridges will take a longer time, depending on the necessary procedures. Depending on the state of your gums, you may need a bone graft (for more information on bone grafts, click here). Then, the implants will be placed in your gums and given time to settle before finalizing your whole look with a new bridge.
